South Metro Denver Events: Your Complete Guide to August 2026

What’s happening this month in Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock, Parker, Lone Tree, Centennial, Littleton, Greenwood Village, Englewood, and Aurora — plus back-to-school dates you’ll want to know.

August in South Metro Denver is packed. Here’s what’s happening this month, city by city.

Highlands Ranch

The Ice Cream Social is one of my favorites every year — Wednesday, August 5th, 5–8pm. All-you-can-eat ice cream and snow cones, food trucks, live music from the Highlands Ranch Concert Band, and the Sheriff’s Office and South Metro Fire bring out their vehicles for the kids to check out. It’s also a fundraiser for a local nonprofit. More details

Later in the month, don’t miss the Summer Sunset Concert and Drone Show — Saturday, August 22nd, 7–8:30pm, Civic Green Park. It’s free, with live 90s and 2000s music from Ninety2K, food trucks, and a drone show honoring America’s 250th and Colorado’s 150th anniversaries — a drone show instead of fireworks, given the fire restrictions we’re all under right now. Castle Rock

First Fridays at Festival Park is a good one to know about — Friday, August 7th, 5:30–9pm. Free live music, a family 5K, and food trucks right in downtown Castle Rock. More details

Parker

Fiesta Parker is a highlight every year — Saturday, August 22nd, 1–7pm. A celebration of Latino culture in downtown Parker, with live music, dancing, food, artisan vendors, and activities for the kids. More details

Centennial

Centennial Under the Stars — Saturday, August 8th, 5–9pm, at Centennial Center Park. Now in its 20th year, it’s a free community night with live music, food trucks, and activities for the whole family. More details

Littleton

Peachfest at Aspen Grove Farmer’s Market — Friday, August 7th, starting at 10am. A fun seasonal twist on Littleton’s regular market, with local produce and peach-themed treats. More details

Greenwood Village

People + Produce Farmers Market at Belleview Station runs every Sunday through October 11th, 9am–1pm, with 50+ local vendors, live music, and a beer garden. A great weekly option for the rest of the season. More details

Englewood

For anyone gluten-free (or cooking for someone who is), the Gluten Free Farmer’s Market at Chase Tower is worth knowing about — Saturday, August 8th, 9am–1pm. Food trucks, produce, crafts, and prepared foods, all gluten-free, hosted by Denver Celiacs. More details

Lone Tree

The Lone Tree Arts Center has programming running through summer and into fall — worth a look if you want something close to home this month. See what’s on

Aurora

First Friday at Stanley Marketplace — Friday, August 7th, starting at 6pm. A free, walkable evening of local shops, food, and community at one of the area’s favorite gathering spots. More details

Back to School in South Metro Denver

A few important dates if you have kids heading back to class:

Douglas County schools (Highlands Ranch, Parker, Castle Rock, Lone Tree): first day is August 12th. Teachers head back starting August 4th for orientation and planning days.
Cherry Creek School District (Centennial, Greenwood Village, parts of Aurora): first day is a phased August 17th–19th, based on grade level.
